Take-Two has just announced a deal signed with Universal Pictures and director Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) to produce a movie based on BioShock.

"BioShock fans appreciate the depth and complexity of the game, and our partnership with Gore Verbinski will introduce the world of Rapture to an even wider audience,” said 2K Games president Christoph Hartmann. “In addition to his impressive body of work, Gore is an avid videogamer and true fan of BioShock. That was extremely important to us in deciding to move forward with this project."

The movie is to be written by John Logan, the Academy Award-nominated writer of Gladiator, The Aviator and Sweeney Todd.
